ADIA is the peak business organisation representing manufacturers and suppliers of dental products. Our vision is for an industry that empowers oral health professionals to advance the health and wellbeing of all Australians...................... — ADIA Strategic Plan

Advocacy — Internationally harmonised regulation

The regulatory framework for dental product (and other medical devices) should support the international distribution of products that are proven to be safe and effective by a competent jurisdiction. Inconsistency in medical device regulation at a global level involves significant costs for both manufacturers and suppliers and constitutes a technical barrier to trade.

Strategic priority —

Securing international agreement for ‘approved once – available everywhere’ as the underpinning principle for medical device regulation.

Actions required by government —

Accelerate international medical device regulatory harmonisation and convergence.
Open discussion and the sharing of best practices among regulatory authorities responsible
aafor medical device regulation.
Frequent exchange of policy and regulatory information of common interest to regulatory
aaauthorities and businesses.
Identification by regulatory authorities of commonalities as a means of overcoming
aaunnecessary regulatory barriers.
Convergence in areas of regulating advanced and innovative technologies.
Enhance communication, information sharing and scientific exchange among regulators
aaand the dental industry.
Mandated engagement by the International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF) with the
aadental industry and broader medical device sector.

Advocacy partner —

ADIA’s partner in delivering outcomes across this policy area is the International Dental Manufacturers (IDM) association.

Industry benefits —

The direct outcome for ADIA member businesses are increased profitability, business growth and job creation as a result of being able to introduce into the Australian market new and innovative dental products without the burden of meeting regulatory standards for dental products that a duplicated across several international markets.

This priority reflects ADIA's commitment to ensure a strong. dynamic and globally competitive Australian economy by advancing the cause of economic reform. The reforms set out above are part of a considered and balanced reform agenda that will achieve a number of outcomes including lowering and simplifying taxes, streamlining the federation, reducing the size of government, eliminating red-tape, improving efficiency and enhancing our national productivity.

Member Engagement —

ADIA provides leadership, strategy, advocacy and support. Our members set our agenda, fund our activities and directly benefit from the results.
