Good oral health is about having more than a nice smile ...

Teeth play a crucial role in enhancing appearance and play a significant role in determining one’s integration into society.

Children and adults alike report impaired social functioning due to oral disease, including avoiding laughing and smiling.

Children indicate being apprehensive about meeting others because of the appearance of their teeth or because others made jokes about their teeth.

While physical pain and discomfort is the most common experience in adults with oral disease, many feel self-consciousness and tense, have difficulty relaxing and experience embarrassment. Some may also feel as though their lives are less satisfying or that they are totally unable to function.
